How to join the Rottnest Voluntary Guides Association (Inc.)

When joining the Rottnest Voluntary Guides Association (RVGA) there are two classes of membership to consider.  You can apply to join as an Associate Member and/or you can apply to join as a Trainee Guide.  Associate Member and Trainee Guide applicants must be aged 18 years or over. As an added incentive to join our Association, Associate Members accepted into the training course will have the membership fee paid during the membership year in which the training course commences, deducted from the cost of the course.

As an Associate Member, you will receive the RVGA’s monthly newsletter, and you will be eligible to attend meetings held on the mainland, generally at the Dalkeith-Nedlands Bowling Club, Jutland Parade, Dalkeith. Existing RVGA members, who change from being a Guide to an Associate Member without a break in membership, continue to have access privileges to the RVGA’s Guides and Archive websites.  Associate Members who have not transitioned from being a Guide, do not have access to these websites.

As an Associate Member, attending meetings will provide the opportunity to meet and make friends with other members, learn about Rottnest, and get to know what’s involved in being a Guide on Rottnest Island.

If you wish to join the RVGA as an Associate Member, please click on the Associate Member Application link above and complete the online application form.  Applications to join the RVGA are subject to approval by the Committee.

If you wish to become a Trainee Guide, please click on the ‘Training to be a Guide’ link above and follow the on-screen advice.  Associate Members seeking to apply to attend the training course will also need to complete a Trainee Guide Application form.

Applications to join the RVGA as a Trainee Guide are subject to an interview process in January or early February and approval by the Committee.  As a Trainee Guide, you will participate in the RVGA’s training course, which includes two training weekends on Rottnest Island and have access to the RVGA’s online resources.  When you have successfully completed the training program and the associated assessments you will be eligible to undertake guiding duties on Rottnest Island.

More information about training to become a Rottnest Guide is available by clicking on the ‘Training to be a Guide’ link above.  We look forward to meeting you.  As a member of the Association you can look forward to many years of enjoyable and rewarding activity in association with the “family” of some 375 existing members.

Members of the Association are required to abide by the RVGA’s Rules of Association and Regulations, which may be accessed by clicking highlighted links.
