We run a 15 week training programme for new guides at the beginning of each year.
The 2027 Training Programme will run from 9 February 2027 on Tuesday nights until 18 May 2027 and must be attended in full. In addition, there are two long-weekend training sessions on Rottnest Island.
The two training weekends are particularly important parts of the program, as they provide essential practical experience. The weekends must also be attended for the full duration. Dates for these are:
10am Friday 12th March to 4:30pm Sunday 14th March 2027
10am Friday 30th April to 4:30pm Monday 3rd May 2027
Attending the Training
Trainee guides must be able to physically attend all the training sessions including the two weekends. There is no distance-learning option. If you know in advance that you can’t attend, please consider joining as an Associate and apply to become a trainee guide when you have more time available.
Cost of Training
The cost of the 2026 course was $425, and we expect course fees for 2027 will be similar. Payment will be required in full by December 11th 2026.

RVGA membership
13 weeks of training on Tuesday evenings including presentations, small group work and supper
Some hard-copy reference materials
Access to the Association’s members’ website, where all of the learning material you need is available
Two long weekends on Rottnest Island, including ferry fares and accommodation
